Halloween is a seasonal tradition that often involves themes of fear, mystery, and the supernatural. For characters like Ducobu, Léonie, and Latouche, it represents deeply personal fears and memories. Ducobu recalls the traumatic memory of his first day at school, while Léonie remembers a disastrous experience rated 9.5 out of 10. Latouche is haunted by the fire that destroyed his childhood collection of Gogo, a popular series of humorous clown magazines. These vulnerabilities are often used by Ducobu in his art of trickery and deception. Ducobu is a popular character from the Lombard editions, a French publishing house known for its humorous and satirical comics. The series has surpassed 1000 gags and has gained significant popularity, partly due to related series such as L'Instit Latouche and Léonie. The series has also achieved a major milestone with the sale of 5 million albums. The upcoming 31st volume, titled Ducobu puts himself on his 31, is already announced, showing the continued popularity of the series. One of the most surprising aspects of the Ducobu franchise is its enduring presence in cinema. On the occasion of Halloween 2026, the film Ducobu and the Ghost of Saint-Potache will be released in France on October 7, 2026. This will be the sixth live-action film based on the series. Each of the first five films has sold over a million tickets, with a total of 6.16 million tickets sold so far. The television broadcasts of these films on channels within the TF1 group have attracted more than 42 million viewers. The continuity of the series is due not only to its success but also to the loyalty of its producers, Romain Rojtman and Élie Semoun, who has portrayed Latouche since the first film. Semoun has also transitioned into directing, starting with Ducobu 3, and contributes to the writing of the scripts. According to Laurent Duvault, director of audiovisual development at Mediatoon, the stability of this team, which has worked on the franchise for about fifteen years, is a crucial factor in its ongoing success. The audiovisual expansion of the Ducobu universe will continue next year with The Band of Ducobu entering the animated phase. A 2D animation series developed by Toon Factory is scheduled to air on Canal+ starting February 2027. The first season, consisting of 52 episodes each 11 minutes long, is already completed. Élie Semoun will provide his own voice for his favorite role, continuing his long-standing involvement with the franchise.
