Valve ends sales of its Valve Index VR headset, offering discounts on remaining units and controllers as it transitions to the Steam Frame.
Valve ends sales for Valve Index headset
Valve has announced that it will stop selling its Valve Index virtual reality headset, with remaining units now available at a discount until stock runs out. The company shared the news via a message on the Steam page dedicated to the headset.
Valve Index launched in 2019
The Valve Index was first released in June 2019 and will remain listed in Valve's product catalog for seven years before being replaced by the Steam Frame. Production of the Valve Index ceased as early as the end of last year, before the official announcement of its successor.
Software support continues for years
Valve has assured current users and those who purchase the last available units that software support for the Valve Index will continue for several more years. This ensures that existing users can still use the headset with future updates and features.
Price cut for remaining units
In the United States, remaining Valve Index units are now discounted by 20%, bringing the price down from $499 to $399.20. Replacement controllers for the headset are also being sold at the same 20% discount until stock is depleted.
