Symptoms after menopause

Vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse, and frequent urination are common issues for women after menopause, according to a survey cited by the brand Intimina. These symptoms can affect daily comfort and intimate relationships but are often not discussed with healthcare professionals.

Genitourinary syndrome of menopause

These symptoms are grouped under the name genitourinary syndrome of menopause, which is linked to a decrease in estrogen. Although often seen as a natural part of aging, they can be managed with proper care and treatment.

Prevalence and communication

According to Intimina's data, nearly 84% of women after menopause experience the genitourinary syndrome. Among those with symptoms, 40% have never spoken to a healthcare professional, and only 10.3% of those who have discussed the issue had their doctor bring it up.

Reasons for silence

The main reason for this silence is the belief that these changes are a normal part of aging and should be accepted. However, Dr. Susanna Unsworth, a specialist in women's health, emphasizes that there is no need to suffer these symptoms without seeking help.

Physiological changes

With menopause, the decrease in estrogen gradually changes the tissues of the vulva, vagina, and urinary tract. These tissues become thinner, less elastic, and less lubricated, leading to dryness, irritation, pain during sex, and increased urgency or frequency of urination.
