Italian biathlon team heads to Norway

The Italian biathlon team is traveling to Norway on Monday for a two-week training camp in Geilo, which will conclude with the Norwegian opening races on November 14 and 15. The Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) announced the selection of twelve athletes for the camp, with specific names listed for both men's and women's teams.

Leadership and recovery in the team

Klaus Hoellrigl, head of Italian biathlon, expressed confidence about the future despite the retirement of Dorothea Wierer. He noted that Tommaso Giacomel, who suffered a left shoulder dislocation less than three months ago, has recovered and is now able to carry the rifle again. Hoellrigl also commented on Lisa Vittozzi's successful return to competition, stating that the team needs to proceed cautiously and remain grounded.

Coaching and current training locations

Hoellrigl praised the leadership qualities of Egil Gjelland, who has been chosen to coach the Italian women's team. The Italian athletes are currently training in two different locations: the women are at Col de Lavazè with Lisa Vittozzi, while the men are at Antholz with Tommaso Giacomel.

New developments in biathlon

Separately, Sweden revealed its new racing suit for the 2026/2027 season. In roller skiing, Lou Rives and Zacharie Bourdin were among the notable winners at the autumn regional roller skiing race in Prémanon. Lucas Marceau was highlighted as a potential hero for biathlon.

France's progress in biathlon

Siegfried Mazet noted that France has passed Norway in certain aspects, citing a very young staff in France that has the desire to experiment with new approaches. This indicates a shift in the competitive landscape of biathlon as different nations adapt their strategies.
