Italian skiers start winter training in Finland

Italian cross-country skiers have begun their winter preparation with a two-week training camp in Muonio, Finnish Lapland, starting on Sunday, November 1st. Fourteen athletes, seven men and seven women, were selected by the Italian coaching staff led by German coach Markus Cramer.

Selected athletes include veterans and newcomers

The group includes both experienced athletes and young talents. Among the men are Elia Barp, Davide Graz, Simone Mocellini, Martino Carollo, Simone Daprà, Davide Ghio, and Gabriele Matli. The women’s team features Caterina Ganz, Nicole Monsorno, Federica Cassol, Nadine Laurent, Virginia Cena, Iris De Martin Pinter, and Maria Gismondi.

Training in Finland to adapt to winter conditions

The training camp will allow the athletes to accumulate snow kilometers and refine their preparations before returning to the world circuit. Although they trained on snow during the summer in places like Oberhof in Germany and Torsby in Sweden, this stay in Finland will help them adjust to true winter conditions.

Upcoming races in Muonio

From November 13th to 15th, the Italian cross-country skiers will compete in the traditional Olos/Muonio opening races. These events will pit them against local athletes and foreign teams, including Germany, as part of their preparation for the winter season.

Return to Italy before international events

After the training camp, the athletes will return briefly to Italy before heading back for the first international events of the 2026-2027 season.
