AMD has unveiled a groundbreaking workstation called the Threadripper Halo Station, designed for users requiring extreme computing power for local artificial intelligence (AI) tasks. This system combines 96 CPU cores with four AI accelerators and can support up to 2.6TB of memory. It is built using high-performance hardware typically found in data centers, but packed into a single desktop-sized machine. The Halo Station is aimed at professionals such as researchers, engineers, and AI model developers who need to process complex tasks without relying on cloud-based computing.
At the core of the Halo Station is the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX, a powerful processor based on AMD’s Zen 5 architecture. This CPU offers 192 threads, allowing it to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. The system can be equipped with up to 2TB of RDIMM memory, which is standard for high-performance computing. Additionally, the AI accelerators can add up to 576GB of HBM3e memory, a type of high-bandwidth memory used in advanced computing tasks. Together, these components provide the system with a total memory capacity of 2.6TB, enabling large AI models to run locally with minimal latency.
The AI accelerators in the Halo Station are based on AMD’s Instinct MI350P units. Each of these units features 144GB of HBM3e memory and offers a memory bandwidth of 4TB/s, which is crucial for processing large datasets quickly. When combined, the four accelerators can provide up to 16.4TB/s of memory bandwidth, allowing the system to handle frontier-class AI models and support hundreds of AI agents operating simultaneously in the same environment. This makes the Halo Station ideal for tasks such as training complex machine learning models or running simulations with high computational demands.
AMD introduced a prototype of the Halo Station at IFA 2026, with commercial availability expected in 2027. According to AMD senior vice president Jack Huynh, the workstation is "the most powerful workstation in the world," highlighting its unprecedented computing scale. While the exact price has not been announced, industry estimates suggest that a fully configured system could cost around $150,000. This makes the Halo Station a high-end solution for organizations and professionals needing the latest in local AI processing power.
