New building construction starts

Bordeaux Airport has begun constructing a new central building that will serve as the main hub for its operations, situated between Halls A and B. This building is a major part of the airport's plan to modernize its infrastructure and will be completed by the end of 2029, though it will open in stages starting in 2028.

Building's layout and features

The new structure will have four levels and will act as the primary entrance for passengers heading to the airport’s boarding areas. It will include a 3,000-square-meter security area with five check lanes, a 5,000-square-meter central area for waiting and shopping, and a 4,200-square-meter baggage claim area. These spaces will be equipped with advanced technology to improve efficiency and passenger experience.

Investment and transformation goals

This building alone accounts for half of the 140 million euros allocated to the airport's platform transformation program. After the construction, 70 percent of the airport’s services will be located on the boarding side, up from the current 30 percent. Additionally, all airport operations will continue without interruption during the construction period.

Phased opening and new facilities

The city-side facade of the new building will be completed by the summer of 2027. In early 2028, a new passenger route with ten additional check-in counters will open, along with a new check-in area in Hall B, the first lanes of the new security checkpoint, and connected baggage claim areas. By the end of 2028, the new configuration of boarding areas in Hall B will be fully operational.

Final stages and full integration

By the summer of 2029, the entire single screening checkpoint for both Halls A and B will be open, as well as the first sales points in the central area of the new building. This will mark the full integration of the new central building into the airport's operations and the completion of the first major phase of the transformation program.
