CyberDay event in Mayotte

During CyberMonth in October, the Technopole of Mayotte hosts the first local edition of CyberDay on October 22 and 23, 2026. The event is co-organized by the Observatoire de la Cybersécurité de l'Océan Indien (OCOI), Mayotte in Tech, and La French Tech Mayotte, bringing together business leaders, public officials, and network specialists.

Cyberattacks hit local portals

Local news reported on October 22 that several major administrative portals in Mayotte, including the websites of the prefecture and the Social Security Fund (CSSM), became inaccessible. This was due to a critical vulnerability known as "PHP2Shell," highlighting that cyber threats now affect more than just large corporations or major cities.

Cybersecurity expert warns of growing risks

Shafiq Mohamed, president of the Observatoire de la Cybersécurité de l'Océan Indien, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about cyber threats. He noted that the event is part of a regional effort to address growing risks, as digitalization increases the exposure of organizations and individuals to attacks.

Local businesses face unique challenges

Mayotte's economy is largely composed of small businesses, artisans, and associations that often cannot afford full-time IT directors. To address this, event organizers have focused on local resources and solutions that are more affordable and accessible than those offered by Parisian firms.

Cybersecurity becomes a daily concern

Mohamed El Anjilani, director of Ethic Service, a digital services company in Mayotte, highlighted that cybersecurity is now a daily concern. He explained that while companies may lack the resources to defend against all threats, the goal is to provide practical, cost-effective solutions to protect vital data.

Hands-on workshops test preparedness

On October 23, participants will engage in practical workshops simulating cyberattack scenarios. These sessions will test their ability to respond under pressure, including isolating infected servers and coordinating technical teams, reinforcing the importance of preparedness in the face of cyber threats.
