Sailors gather in Ajaccio

Dozens of small sails animated the Ajaccio gulf throughout this week as young sailors prepared for a competition. The event marked the second stage of the O'pen Skiff Tour, a regatta circuit featuring the sporty O'pen Skiff sailboats.

Event spans three days

After a day of training on Tuesday, 65 young sailors participated in the competition from Wednesday to Friday. The event took place in Ajaccio, a city on the French island of Corsica, over three days.

Competitors come from mainland France

Alain Fichou, president of the Société Nautique d'Ajaccio and the Corsican Sailing League, noted that 32 of the competitors had traveled from the mainland. This was the first time the O'pen Skiff Tour had taken place in Ajaccio, despite the island hosting the event in the past.

Logistics required months of preparation

The event's first-time location in Ajaccio required significant behind-the-scenes effort. To accommodate the mainland competitors, the Société Nautique d'Ajaccio had to assemble a sufficient number of boats. This involved a month of preparation, including borrowing and renting boats.

Volunteers helped with the effort

The organization relied on numerous volunteers to manage the logistics. According to Fichou, the volunteers were essential in gathering and preparing the boats for the event.
