Nîmes launches on-demand tram alighting to improve evening travel, especially for women, starting October 26.
Nîmes tests on-demand tram stops
Starting Monday, October 26 at 8:00 PM, passengers on three Tango tram lines in Nîmes will be able to request to get off between two stops. This new feature is part of a six-month experiment aimed at improving the experience for evening travelers, particularly women.Evening travel becomes more flexible
The initiative allows passengers to exit closer to their destination, reducing the distance they need to walk after their trip. The experiment begins in the evening when transport usage and road traffic are lower, making it easier to integrate with regular operations without affecting other passengers' travel times.System operates with specific rules
Passengers must inform the driver at least one stop in advance if they want to get off between stops. The driver will then select a safe location for alighting, maintaining control over the exact point where the passenger can exit. All exits must be made through the front door of the tram.Local authority emphasizes user needs
The on-demand alighting feature is part of Nîmes Métropole's efforts to adapt the public transport network to the needs of its users. President Vincent Bouget highlighted that mobility policy is not just about moving more people but ensuring that each person can travel freely and safely.
