In the third quarter of 2026, professionals sold used electric vehicles faster than internal combustion engine vehicles, according to data from Mobilians, Avere-France, and AAA Data. Used electric cars spent an average of 134 days with a professional before being sold, compared to 147 days for internal combustion engine models. This means electric vehicles are being sold nearly two weeks faster on average. The resale period for electric vehicles has been decreasing over time, dropping from 161 days in the fourth quarter of 2025 to 138 days in the second quarter of 2026. In contrast, the resale time for internal combustion engine vehicles has been increasing. These statistics apply only to vehicles sold by professionals, not between private individuals. Professionals now have 61,569 used electric cars in stock, which accounts for 9% of their total automotive inventory. This number has grown by 5% compared to the previous quarter. The speed of resale varies significantly depending on the type of vehicle. For city cars, the average resale time dropped from 138 to 117 days in a quarter. Electric SUVs show even more impressive progress, with an average resale time of 83 days compared to 141 days for their internal combustion engine counterparts. The Tesla Model Y has benefited from price reductions on new models since the start of the year, making used versions more attractive. The Renault Twingo electric from an earlier generation stands out, with 60% of its sales completed in less than three months, surpassing the Mini electric (57%) and the Renault Mégane E-Tech (52%). In terms of volume, the Peugeot e-208 leads sales, with 1,820 units sold. The French used electric car market recorded 61,349 transactions in the third quarter of 2026, a 15% decrease from the previous quarter but a 40% increase compared to the same period last year. With purchase incentives, a new electric vehicle costs on average 35,543 euros, while a used electric vehicle less than three years old costs 33,672 euros. This represents a small price gap of about 5%, which may encourage some buyers to consider new models. However, older used electric vehicles still offer a more significant financial advantage. On average, used electric vehicles of all ages cost 23,384 euros. This highlights the important role of the used car market in making electric vehicles more accessible to a broader range of consumers.
