Serial rapist Zhenhao Zou, a 29-year-old Chinese PhD student, may face additional charges after detectives uncovered new evidence linking him to more alleged offenses. Zou was already jailed for life in 2023 with a minimum term of 24 years after being convicted of 11 counts of rape, including two involving the same victim. He was also found guilty of voyeurism, possession of extreme pornography, false imprisonment, and possession of a controlled drug—called butanediol—with intent to commit a sexual offense. Zou kept a “trophy box” containing items belonging to his victims and filmed nine of the rapes as the women lost consciousness. The Metropolitan Police has submitted a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which decides whether to bring charges in England and Wales. The evidence was gathered following reports from several women who came forward after a public appeal. The file includes allegations of rape and administering substances with sexual intent. It also involves five women who contacted police after the appeal and two more alleged rapes by Zou involving unidentified victims. However, police have not yet decided whether to charge him with these new offenses, and discussions with the CPS are ongoing. Detective Chief Superintendent Angela Craggs, leading the investigation, praised the courage of the women who reported their experiences. She emphasized that the submission of the evidence file was a major development in the case, while acknowledging that the CPS is still considering the details of the allegations in the UK. The police continue to investigate claims of sexual assault involving women in China, where Zou also lived. Craggs encouraged anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Zou or has information to come forward.
