The 12th edition of the MIA | Rome International Audiovisual Market will take place from 19 to 23 October, bringing together professionals from the global audiovisual industry in Rome. This year, the event will feature a new format and a programme focused on financing, intellectual property, new business models, and evolving storytelling methods. Organized by ANICA and APA, the market is directed by Gaia Tridente and chaired by Alessandro Usai (ANICA) and Chiara Sbarigia (APA). For the first time, the market will span areas such as Via Veneto and Piazza Barberini, creating a central hub that connects seven official venues across the city.
The event is growing in international significance, with more than 630 project submissions received from 83 countries—an increase of 26% compared to the previous year. Of these, 104 projects from 43 countries have been selected for the Co-Production & Gap Financing Market and Work-in-Progress sessions. The editorial programme will include over 40 conferences, talks, and meetings featuring 85 international speakers. A new addition to this year’s programme is the European Investment Hub, a platform designed to connect audiovisual companies, investors, and institutions, making it easier to access European and international financial resources.
The 2026 edition will place even more emphasis on new content formats, including an Animation Series Gap Financing Market and a focus on microdrama and emerging serial storytelling. According to Chiara Sbarigia, these changes reflect the industry's need to adapt to a rapidly evolving global landscape and provide producers with new opportunities for production and financing. The conference programme will also explore industry economics and how audience preferences are shifting.
On 21 October, Chiara Sbarigia will present APA’s eighth Report on National Audiovisual Production, discussing economic and employment trends for 2025-2026. A later session will bring together key figures from Rai Fiction, Netflix, Medusa Film, Sky Studios Italy, Amazon Studios, and Warner Bros Discovery to discuss production quality. On 22 October, ANICA will share findings from its Sala e Salotto research project, which examines how films are consumed after their theatrical release across pay-TV, linear television, and streaming platforms. Gaia Tridente emphasized that the programme aims to transform current industry changes into tangible opportunities, reinforcing MIA’s role as a global hub for the audiovisual sector.
