MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity CX C10 Max, a new chip designed for laptops and intended for use in future Googlebooks. This processor is part of MediaTek’s Dimensity Compute Experiences (CX) family and is a system on a chip (SoC), meaning it integrates multiple components of a computer onto a single chip. It is built using TSMC’s advanced 3 nm lithography process, which allows for more efficient performance and lower power consumption. The chip is optimized for portable computing and aims to enable the creation of thin, lightweight laptops that don’t require traditional cooling systems, with MediaTek claiming it can provide up to a full day of battery life.
The CX C10 Max features an "All Big Core" design, meaning all of its CPU cores are high-performance cores, which is unusual for most processors that use a mix of high- and low-power cores. The CPU includes eight cores, while the GPU has eleven cores, providing strong performance for both computing and graphics tasks. Additionally, the chip includes an eighth-generation NPU 890 neural coprocessor, capable of reaching 55 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of computing power. This NPU is designed to locally process features of Google’s Gemini Intelligence AI tool, helping to reduce delays and improve data privacy by keeping sensitive processing on the device itself.
The Dimensity CX C10 Max also includes an integrated MediaTek Imagiq 1090 image signal processor (ISP), which supports high-resolution cameras up to 32 megapixels and enhances features like HDR video capture, smooth zooming, and continuous focus. These capabilities are intended to improve the quality of video calls and live streams from laptops. In terms of connectivity, the chip supports Wi-Fi 7, which can theoretically reach speeds of 7.3 Gb/s, and Bluetooth 6.0, offering faster and more stable wireless connections.
With the release of the Dimensity CX C10 Max, MediaTek is entering a competitive market, directly challenging Intel’s Core Ultra 300 (Panther Lake) processors and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chips. Although no manufacturers have yet announced laptops with this chip, such announcements are expected in the near future. Vince Hu, head of MediaTek’s Data Center and Computing division, emphasized that this development continues the long-standing collaboration between MediaTek and Google, particularly within the Android ecosystem.
