Oppo has officially announced the global release of the Find X10 Pro Max, a new flagship smartphone powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset. This chip is notable as the first 2 nm System on a Chip (SoC) designed for Android devices, marking a significant leap in semiconductor manufacturing technology. The Dimensity 9600 Pro is positioned as a direct competitor to Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, although the exact name of Qualcomm’s latest offering is still unclear. The new chipset features an "All Big Core" design, which means it does not include smaller, more energy-efficient cores typically used for lighter tasks. Instead, it includes two ultra-fast C2-Ultra cores running at 4.55 GHz and six high-performance cores, each with individual frequency control for optimized performance. According to Oppo, the Find X10 Pro Max delivers a 17% improvement in CPU performance and about 27% better graphics performance compared to the previous Find X9 Pro model. This boost is largely due to the new G2-Ultra NX GPU and support for hardware ray tracing, which enhances visual realism in gaming and multimedia. The chipset is built using TSMC’s N2P process, which promises up to 61% greater CPU energy efficiency in multi-core scenarios. This improvement could lead to lower heat generation, potentially allowing for better thermal management and sustained performance during intensive tasks. Additionally, the Dimensity 9600 Pro includes a dual Neural Processing Unit (NPU) architecture, with one NPU offering 51% faster processing for large language models and a “Super Efficient NPU” that improves background AI task efficiency by 40%. Oppo has also incorporated its Laminar Flow Engine, developed in partnership with MediaTek, which is designed to make the phone’s interface smoother and speed up application launches. The Find X10 Pro Max is expected to feature three 200-megapixel cameras, making it the first smartphone to offer such a high-resolution triple-camera setup. This move highlights Oppo’s focus on pushing the boundaries of smartphone photography. The ongoing competition between MediaTek and Qualcomm has been a defining trend in the smartphone chip industry. MediaTek previously gained an edge with its Arm C1 cores, and the release of the Dimensity 9600 Pro continues this rivalry. As both companies strive to deliver better performance and efficiency, consumers benefit from increasingly powerful and capable mobile devices.
