Opéra de Tours hosts unique Mozart event

At the Opéra de Tours, pianist and composer Jean-François Zygel presented an original encounter with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart this weekend, accompanied by the Orchestre symphonique Région Centre-Val de Loire/Tours under the direction of Patrick Marie Aubert. The event emphasized sharing, discovery, and camaraderie.

A musical gathering with Zygel

The evening, titled Mon ami Mozart, resembled a musical gathering where Zygel, a pianist, composer, and pedagogue, shared his admiration for the Austrian genius with the audience. Zygel recounted how his passion for Mozart began at age eight when he discovered the composer at school, a revelation that significantly influenced his musical journey.

Exploring Mozart’s universe

Zygel guided the audience through Mozart's universe, blending commentary, anecdotes, and musical interpretations. Works such as the famous Petite musique de nuit and the Concerto pour piano n° 23 were performed, offering both familiar and fresh perspectives on these pieces.

Soprano and instrumental highlights

The soprano Jeanne Mendoche performed excerpts from Les Noces de Figaro and La Flûte enchantée, highlighting the melodic and theatrical richness of Mozart's compositions. Zygel also surprised the audience with percussion by Joël Grare and solos by François Petit on the clarinet and Tiphaine Gaigne, showcasing the diversity of timbres and emotions in Mozart's work.

The magical sound of the celesta

An unexpected moment occurred when Zygel left his piano to introduce the unique sound of the celesta, an instrument with crystalline tones that seemed to come from another world. This added a touch of magic to the evening.

A shared and intimate experience

The event created a sense of shared experience beyond a typical concert, with Zygel's warm storytelling bridging the gap between stage and audience. Attendees felt as though they were welcomed into Zygel's home, listening to a friend recount a story punctuated by music, discoveries, and surprises.
