Sexual fantasies involving non-human elements, such as tentacles and snakes, are growing in popularity, according to recent reports. These types of fantasies are often referred to by sex experts as "niche play fetishes," which are specific and often unconventional preferences within the broader spectrum of human sexuality. One online community, a subreddit called "Tentai," which focuses on tentacle-themed content, has grown to 516,000 members and continues to attract new users. The demand for sex toys shaped like tentacles has surged, particularly in the UK. According to Dragon Dildo, a company that specializes in fantasy-themed sex toys, tentacle dildos are now the fastest-growing category in their product line. Sales have risen significantly since 2024, with cities like Glasgow, Birmingham, Bristol, and Leeds showing high interest in "kraken" dildos—those shaped like mythical sea creatures. In Nottingham, there has been a notable increase in purchases of tentacle-shaped toys designed for anal play, as reported by the sex toy retailer Odyssey. Experts suggest that the appeal of tentacle fantasies may be linked to the idea of power dynamics, where individuals imagine being dominated by a large, powerful sea creature. The physical sensation of the toy's textured surface and its elongated, flexible shape can also contribute to arousal. Sex therapist Gigi Engle notes that fascination with the ocean and sea creatures has historical roots, with references found as far back as ancient texts like "The Odyssey." For those interested in exploring these fantasies, a variety of tentacle-shaped dildos are available from retailers like Bad Dragon and Odyssey. Engle recommends enhancing the experience with accessories like blindfolds and sound effects to increase immersion. However, she also emphasizes the importance of considering the size of these products, as some can be quite large—up to 23.5cm in length and 7.5cm in width, with some reaching as long as 65cm. Proper use, including adequate lubrication and ensuring full arousal, is crucial for safety and comfort.
