Peugeot reintroduces GTi badge

Peugeot is set to bring back the GTi nameplate with its new electric E-208 model, signaling a return to its performance-oriented roots after a four-year pause due to environmental regulations.

E-208 GTi specifications

The E-208 GTi is expected to launch in 2025 and features a 51 kWh battery, offering a range of 353 km with Michelin tires or up to 375 km with Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 tires. It produces 281 hp and 345 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.

Design and interior features

The car includes widened tracks, a lowered body, and 18-inch wheels with red calipers, emphasizing its sporty appearance. The interior features red accents, bucket seats, and Alcantara on the steering wheel, though some critics note the use of hard plastics.

Technology and handling

The E-208 GTi includes a 3D "i-Cockpit" digital dashboard and a 10-inch touchscreen, though it suffers from latency. Handling is praised for its precise steering and mechanical self-locking differential, though braking performance is criticized for lacking bite.

Real-world performance and price

The car's real-world range is around 200 km during sporty driving, which is less than the official figures. The base price is 42,900 €, but discounts and grants bring it down to 37,450 €.

Competitors in the market

The E-208 GTi faces competition from models such as the Mini John Cooper Works E, Alpine A290, and Volkswagen Polo GTI, each offering different levels of power and range.
