Leapmotor, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is growing its presence in Spain by planning to produce its SUV model B10 at a plant in Saragossa. The company aims to manufacture 300 units of the B10 every day by the end of this year. In addition, the electric sedan B05 is set to begin production at the same site in the third quarter of 2027.
According to reports from Spanish media outlet Tribuna de Automoción, Leapmotor also plans to produce four other models—B03, B03X, C10, and B01—at the Villaverde plant near Madrid starting in 2029. These models would be produced at a rate of 90,000 units annually. The B03 is expected to receive a European passport, meaning it will be officially recognized for sale in the European market, in the second quarter of 2028, while the B03X would follow in the third quarter of the same year.
The Madrid plant currently produces the Citroën C4 and C4X models, which are French-made sedans. However, the next generation of these vehicles is expected to be produced in Kenitra, Morocco, instead of Spain. This shift might involve a significant investment from Stellantis, the parent company of Citroën, which could invest up to 400 million euros to reconfigure the production lines. Such a change would require shutting down the plant for two to three months to complete the necessary upgrades.
Leapmotor has not officially confirmed the details of these plans, including the exact models to be produced or the investment amounts involved. The company's expansion in Spain signals its growing influence in the European automotive market, particularly as it competes with established manufacturers in the electric vehicle sector.
