Electric vehicles in France

There is currently a wide selection of electric vehicles available on the French market. However, the price remains a key factor for many buyers, as zero-emission vehicles often have high tailpipe costs.

Government financial aid

To help offset these costs, the French government offers financial assistance programs like the CEE grant. This grant provides significant support to eligible electric vehicle buyers, but not all models qualify for it.

Strict eco-score requirement

Eligibility for the CEE grant depends on a strict eco-score, which measures the carbon footprint of a vehicle's manufacturing and transportation. This score effectively excludes most models produced in Asia, complicating the situation for Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.

Leapmotor's European production

One Chinese manufacturer, Leapmotor, has found a solution by producing its B10 electric SUV in Europe. The vehicle is now manufactured at the Stellantis plant in Saragosse, Spain, since October 16, allowing it to meet the eco-score requirements.

Financial benefits for buyers

Leapmotor confirmed on October 23 that the B10 now qualifies for the CEE grant, which provides a boost of 3,650 to 7,000 euros depending on the buyer's income. This also helps avoid European tariffs that would otherwise apply to Chinese-made electric vehicles.

Competitive pricing

The Leapmotor B10 is now listed from 25,750 euros, with the price dropping to 22,400 euros for the least affluent households. This is significantly lower than the 29,900 euros of the Chinese-imported version, which had limited CEE grant support.

Improved features and performance

The Life Pro version of the B10 includes a larger battery, increased autonomy, and features like a 14.6-inch touchscreen and 360-degree cameras. The Life ProMax version also sees improvements in battery capacity and range.

Lease options available

The Leapmotor B10 is also available through lease options starting at 280 euros per month for a 48-month contract. These offers include the minimum CEE grant of 3,650 euros, accessible to all households regardless of income.

Corporate interest in eco-score

The eco-score label also benefits companies, as it allows a 70% reduction on the company car benefit, reducing both employer and employee costs by up to 4,641 euros.
