Cyberpunk 2077 returns to Steam with update

Cyberpunk 2077 has returned to Steam with its 2.5 update, which brought more than 187,000 players simultaneously during the weekend of October 24 and 25, 2026. This marks a new peak for the game on Valve's platform, and is the second best performance since October 2023.

Previous player record still stands

The last time Cyberpunk 2077 gathered a large number of players was for the release of the Phantom Liberty DLC and the 2.0 version, which set a record of 274,526 simultaneous players. This weekend's numbers are lower, but the game's continued appeal is evident three years after its initial release.

New content and media drive interest

The resurgence in player numbers is attributed to two factors: the release of Edgerunners 2, the second season of the animated series based on the Cyberpunk 2077 license, and the 2.5 update, which includes new content such as a prequel quest to the new season. Additionally, a 70% discount on Steam was offered to boost sales.

Developer acknowledges player engagement

Paweł Sasko, the quest director for Cyberpunk 2077, expressed his surprise at the game's performance, sharing his thoughts on social media. He noted the high number of players, the discussions, and meme clips generated, and asked for player feedback on what could be improved or missed in version 2.5.
