Nigella Lawson has officially joined The Great British Bake Off as the new judge, taking over from Dame Prue Leith, who stepped down after nine series. The show has released a trailer introducing Lawson alongside returning judges Paul Hollywood and Alison Hammond, as well as comedian Noel Fielding. In the clip, the group is seen in the Bake Off kitchen, pretending to put their forks into something off camera. Lawson looked directly into the lens and said, "You’re mine, my divine." Another scene showed Hollywood laughing when someone off camera suggested, "Can you get on Paul’s shoulders for this one?" Hammond then interrupted, appearing on camera and saying, "Ladies first," before Lawson moved to the front of the group. A message then appeared on screen: "The bake is back." Lawson, best known for her bestselling cookery books like How To Be A Domestic Goddess and her Channel 4 show Nigella Bites, has spoken about her approach to judging. She said she aims to focus on the positive, adding, "I always try to look for the positive as well, because you never want criticism to make people feel inadequate, or to be something that pampers them rather than encourages them." Dame Prue Leith, who left the show in January, has praised Lawson as the ideal replacement. Speaking on This Morning in August, she said, "I didn’t have to give her any tips but I did tell her to just enjoy it because she’s so good. She was quite nervous." Leith added that Lawson is "so well qualified and knows exactly what she’s doing and the audience love her." The Great British Bake Off will return to Channel 4 on Tuesday at 8pm, with fans eagerly awaiting the debut of its new judging lineup.
