Nigella Lawson has revealed a nickname she gave to Paul Hollywood, one of her fellow judges on The Great British Bake Off, in response to rumors of a disagreement between them. Lawson, 66, is stepping into her first role as a judge on the show, replacing Prue Leith, who left earlier this year. The rumors of tension arose after reports suggested Lawson was frustrated with Hollywood, who allegedly arrived at the set by helicopter. However, Channel 4 denied any feud, and now Lawson has provided more insight into their relationship, highlighting the playful dynamic between them. In a recent interview with The Guardian, Lawson explained that she and Hollywood often tease each other, and she gave him the nickname "Professor Precision." She said, "One of the many lovely things about Paul is that he's good at being teased," and noted that Hollywood responded with his own teasing, which helped ease any tension. She added that Hollywood is more lighthearted than his on-screen persona suggests. "He often acts like the bad cop and does that laser stare, but he's always himself, which encourages other people to be themselves, too. We complement each other." Lawson also shared that Hollywood often pretends to fall asleep when she speaks at length about food, and that they "hit it off" instantly during an informal test of chemistry before she officially joined the judging panel. "It was lucky that we did get on. Can you imagine if we didn't? I bet Paul would have said so!" Hollywood, in turn, praised Lawson, saying she "fitted in beautifully" with the team and that they have spent time together outside of filming, including some "dirty martinis or spicy margaritas." Earlier this month, Lawson addressed the feud rumors in an interview with The Times, saying she didn't mind the speculation. She noted that people would likely have different interpretations of their relationship, but she felt that was fine. Meanwhile, Channel 4's director of content strategy, Kiran Nataraja, humorously dismissed the rumors at the Edinburgh TV Festival, saying, "Nigella and Paul are not arguing about helicopters the whole time." The new season of The Great British Bake Off, hosted by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, will feature 12 amateur bakers competing in the famous tent. The series is set to return on Channel 4 on September 22 at 8pm.
