Nîmes Olympique is preparing for the fifth round of the Coupe de France, a French football knockout competition, against FC Lomagne 82. The match was initially scheduled for Saturday at 20:30 at the Alban-Dupuy stadium in Lavit. However, the location of the match is still uncertain due to concerns raised by FC Lomagne 82. Thierry Dabasse, co-president of FC Lomagne 82, stated that the field in Lavit is not secured and that the prefecture of Tarn-et-Garonne, a regional administrative authority, is currently reviewing the situation. The prefecture might impose a veto, preventing the match from taking place in Lavit. FC Lomagne 82 has informed state services that it is impossible to host the public in Lavit due to security or logistical issues. If the prefecture rules against the match in Lavit, FC Lomagne 82 plans to appeal to the competition commission of the Occitanie Football League for a rescheduling. A backup field in Montbeton was considered, but it was not available on Saturday, and Nîmes Olympique refused to play on Sunday. Nîmes Olympique recently defeated Lattes 3-0 in the fourth round of the Coupe de France, played behind closed doors at Sussargues. This decision was made due to security concerns. Police reported that about forty cars were parked near the Jules-Rimet stadium, with occupants identified as supporters of Montpellier, a rival football club. Ultra supporters, known for their passionate and sometimes confrontational behavior, of Montpellier had hoped to clash with Nîmes supporters. However, no incidents occurred due to coordinated efforts by the Occitanie Football League and police forces. The security of Nîmes players' minibuses was ensured by gendarmes from Lunel, a local law enforcement unit. In rugby, Charles Robbes of the Rugby Club Nîmois (RCN) suffered a left hamstring tear during a match against Graulhet and is expected to be unavailable for two matches. He is estimated to return in early November. Other RCN players, including Maxime Barbet, Malick Sajous, Valentin Tonin, Sam L'Haridon, Thomas Lepeigneul, Noa Lassaux, Romain Darmon, Yoan Serva, and Quentin Pascal, are also sidelined due to injuries. These absences could impact the team's performance in upcoming matches. In handball, Lily Baldet, originally from Verfeuil, has joined the USAM Nîmoise, a local handball club. She was recently called up to the French under-20 team for a gathering from October 18 to 24. She will turn 18 on October 23 and will participate in a preparation camp before heading to Hungary for further training and competition. Her inclusion highlights the rising talent in French handball and the opportunity for young players to represent their country at an international level.
