Delphine Wespiser, a former Miss France and television journalist, plans to file a legal complaint against the spread of false information generated by artificial intelligence. According to her lawyer, Me Tom Michel, she is targeting the circulation of fake death notices about her seriously ill partner, Roger Erhart, who is currently battling cancer. These false messages, which have been circulating on social networks, claim that Erhart has died and even depict false funeral ceremonies. The lawyer confirmed this to AFP on Friday, stating that the misinformation has been spreading for several days.
Wespiser expressed her deep distress over the situation in a message posted on her Instagram account. She wrote, "Learning that people announced the death of my lover, while he is alive, by my side, is a violence that I still have difficulty understanding." She added that facing such fake news while her partner is already struggling with cancer is "deeply distressing," especially given the daily courage and hope required to fight the disease.
The false content, which AFP was able to review, includes fabricated announcements about the funeral of Roger Erhart, her ten-year partner. The posts also contain misleading details about his health status, according to her legal team. Me Tom Michel described these as "vile publications" that have caused additional suffering by leading to distressed calls and messages of condolence. He emphasized that these messages create "constant anxiety" during an already difficult time.
The lawyer plans to file a formal complaint based on a new article in the penal code that specifically targets deepfakes—deceptive content created using artificial intelligence. This law came into effect in May 2024. Michel urged the public not to believe or share these false messages, highlighting the importance of verifying information before spreading it.
