Several studies have examined how the presence of dogs might affect how men are perceived in terms of attractiveness. Research suggests that men who have dogs are often seen as more reliable and caring, which can enhance their overall appeal. In 2013, researcher Daniel J. Kruger and his team found that men living with dogs received higher ratings in traits such as "would take good care of children" and "would work hard even if they don't like their job." These perceptions may make men with dogs more attractive for long-term relationships, even though they sometimes scored lower in areas like fidelity and daily compatibility. Another study, conducted among users of a dating app, found that more than half of the participants—both men and women—found people more attractive when they had adopted a dog or a cat. Dr. Helen Fisher explained that having a pet demonstrates the ability to care for an animal, respect a schedule, and return home to feed, walk, and spend time with it. These behaviors can be seen as signs of responsibility and commitment, which are often valued in relationships. Psychologist Nicolas Guéguen found that women rated photos of men more positively when the men were accompanied by a dog. In a 2015 study, Guéguen noted that men walking with a dog were more likely to get a woman's phone number than men walking alone. However, he also pointed out that these findings might not be replicable today, possibly due to changing social attitudes and the persistence of certain stereotypes. In film, dogs have also been used to shape how audiences perceive male characters. For example, Brad Pitt appears less reserved and more individualistic in Heart of the Beast because of his bond with his German Shepherd. Similarly, Jacob Elordi's connection with his Malinois in The Dog Stars makes him seem more empathetic and open in a post-apocalyptic setting. After the release of The Dog Stars, data from the app Woofz showed a 413% increase in searches for "adoption of military dogs." While these studies suggest that dogs can influence how men are perceived in terms of attractiveness, it is important to remember that not all women find men with dogs more appealing. A man should not be judged solely by the dog he walks daily, as attractiveness is influenced by many factors beyond pet ownership.
