Lexikon, a new performance by the Catalan theater company El Conde de Torrefiel, returns to the Odéon in Paris with a collection of seven stories. The work explores the power and complexity of language—how it can connect people as well as create divisions. According to a report, the performance is designed for those who both speak and listen, aiming to decode the mysteries of words through a series of dramatic and thought-provoking scenarios. The performance features a range of characters and situations, from a woman spying on artists from her window to an academic preparing a speech, an editor returning home late at night, a performer waiting nude in a German castle, and a film shown without images in Cannes. Two voices begin a dialogue that spans time, and the final story remains untold, leaving the audience with an open ending. These elements create a layered narrative that invites reflection on the role of language in shaping human experience. Audience members are engaged by five interpreters-narrators who take turns on stage, using the empty space as a canvas for the seven stories. The performance draws on the spectator's imagination, asking them to fill in the gaps between the spoken word and the visual. The production challenges traditional theatrical conventions with a mix of choreography, video projections, puppetry, performance, installation, and robotic elements, creating a unique dialogue between speech and image. The production team includes Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert for staging, text, and dramaturgy. Scenography is by Isaac Torres and El Conde de Torrefiel, with lighting by Andrea Forlenza. Costumes, masks, and accessories are designed by Mireia Donat Melús, while sound design is by Rebecca Praga, with sound by Uriel Ireland. Video is handled by María Antón Cabot and Carlos Pardo, and robotics are by José Brotons Pla. Roberto Baldinelli assists with staging, and Javier Muñoz Pérez assists with costumes. Translation is by Marion Cousin, with production and administration handled by Ursula Vandenberghe. Technical direction is by Isaac Torres, and executive production is by CIELO DRIVE SL. The performance is produced by Centro Dramático Nacional – Madrid, Odéon Théâtre de l'Europe, Festival d'Automne – Paris, and Teatre Lliure – Barcelone, with support from the ICEC – Generalitat de Catalunya. The performance will take place at Odéon Berthier 17e in Paris from 2 to 16 October 2026. It is presented in co-production with the Festival d'Automne, as part of the larger Festival d'Automne event.
