Residents of Nice Côte d'Azur can comment on the Climate Plan 2032 until November 30, aiming for 50% fewer emissions by 2032.
Public feedback invited on Climate Plan 2032
Residents of the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolitan Area can provide their feedback on the Climate Plan 2032 project until November 30. The draft plan, covering transportation, energy, housing, and climate risk adaptation, is open for public consultation, which began on November 1. The plan is the third Climate-Air-Energy Territorial Plan for the region.Climate goals set for 2032
The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2032 compared to 2012 levels. It also targets a 30 percent reduction in energy consumption and a 50 percent drop in atmospheric pollutant emissions over the same period. Local energy production is expected to reach more than 15 percent of total consumption by 2032, with a higher target of over 40 percent by 2050.Plan organized into six key areas
The plan is divided into six areas: mobility and air quality, housing, food, resource consumption, protection of living organisms, and stakeholder collaboration. For households, the plan includes guidance on daily travel, building renovations, and managing energy needs. It also addresses urban heat, water conservation, and protection from extreme weather events.Key initiatives outlined in deliberation
The June 22 deliberation highlighted the development of carpooling, renewable energy sources such as thalassotherapy, and the preservation of natural environments. The plan outlines the metropolitan area’s responsibilities in mobility and urban planning, with the specific methods of each action to be determined based on the public document.Progress shown in recent years
According to a local authority diagnosis, greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 17.1 percent between 2012 and 2023. Energy consumption dropped by 9.7 percent, and atmospheric pollutant emissions fell by 31 percent during the same period. Renewable energy accounted for 8.1 percent of the region's energy mix in 2023.Continuation of ongoing climate efforts
The previous climate program, covering 2019 to 2025, included 167 actions, with 64 additional actions added during its implementation. The new plan must extend this policy until 2032, with an updated action plan published annually.Consultation details and submission options
The dossier and participation details are available on the official consultation page. An electronic form is available for submitting observations during the open period. Those who prefer a paper version can request one at the email address plan.climat@nicecotedazur.org, with a physical form planned for in-person consultations.Focus areas for public contributions
Contributions can focus on the priorities set, expected effects in Nice’s neighborhoods and valley communes, or proposed actions related to mobility, housing, and resources. The local authority specifies that only observations received between November 1 and November 30 will be considered.Next steps after consultation
An analysis of the collected feedback will be published by the Metropolitan Area and attached to the final version of the plan submitted for approval by the metropolitan council. This consultation is the final public stage before the decision on the Climate Plan 2026-2032.
