Expedia Group uses AI across its brands

Expedia Group has integrated artificial intelligence into its three main brands: Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. The company has introduced more than 30 new features and improvements aimed at enhancing the travel booking experience.

Conversational activity planner on Expedia

On Expedia, a new conversational activity planner suggests activities, restaurants, and events to travelers after their trip is booked. This feature aims to help users plan their experiences more easily once they arrive at their destination.

Multi-city itineraries supported

Expedia now supports multi-city itineraries for flight, hotel, and car bookings. Travelers can book a hotel or car for only part of their trip, making it easier to manage complex travel plans.

Multi-room booking feature

A new multi-room booking feature allows customers to pay for multiple types of rooms at the same hotel together. This simplifies the process for families or groups traveling together.

AI-based comparator on Hotels.com

Hotels.com has introduced an AI-based comparator that helps users find the best accommodations based on location, amenities, price, or conditions. This tool aims to streamline the decision-making process for travelers.

AI answers hotel questions

Hotels.com also offers an AI tool that answers questions about a hotel before or after the booking. This feature provides instant assistance to travelers with concerns or inquiries.

Natural language and voice assistant on Vrbo

Vrbo has launched natural language search and a voice assistant AI. The voice assistant can transfer the call to a human agent if needed, ensuring travelers receive the help they require.

Book now, pay later option

Vrbo offers a "Book now, pay later" option that allows eligible accommodations to be reserved for $0 by registering a credit card. This provides flexibility for travelers who want to secure a booking without immediate payment.

Lounge access and credits for delays

Gold and Platinum OneKey members, as well as up to nine travelers from their group, receive free access to airport lounges or OneKeyCash credits if their flight is delayed by at least 90 minutes. This offer applies to eligible flights booked through Expedia before December 31, 2027.

Most tools available in the U.S.

According to the company’s FAQ, most of these AI tools are currently available in the United States. Expedia Group plans to expand their availability in the future.

Human agents assist when needed

Shilpa Ranganathan, director of products at Expedia Group, stated that when customers need help, human agents are ready to intervene with all the necessary information to resolve any issues.
