President Donald Trump made his fourth appearance this year at the Presidents Cup, a prestigious golf tournament held in the Chicago suburbs, where he serves as the honorary chairman. The U.S. team is currently trailing the International Team 10.5-7.5, with the International Team aiming for a rare victory in the competition. This is only the fourth time in the 32-year history of the Presidents Cup that the U.S. team has been behind. Trump previously attended the 2017 Presidents Cup at Liberty National during his first term in office and returned this year to Medinah Country Club to support the U.S. team. Trump described it as an honor to be named honorary chairman of the event, calling it one of the biggest events in golf. He explained that the Presidents Cup began in 1994 to include international players from non-European countries who were not eligible for the more famous Ryder Cup. The name of the tournament comes from the tradition of including the head of state of the host country as the honorary chairman. Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was involved in the trophy presentation at the last Presidents Cup in 2024 at Royal Montreal. Former President Bill Clinton attended the event in 2000, playing one round at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. In addition to his role at the Presidents Cup, Trump has attended several other golf events this year. He participated in the Cadillac Championship at his Trump National Doral near Miami in early May, the LIV Golf event at his Trump National Bedminster course in New Jersey in August, and the Irish Open at his course in Doonbeg, Ireland, over the weekend. Trump expressed confidence in the Presidents Cup, stating that it would feature the best players and golfers in the world. The Presidents Cup is a biennial event that brings together top golfers from the United States and the rest of the world. The competition consists of matches between teams of 12 players each, with the goal of showcasing international talent and fostering a sense of global camaraderie in the sport. This year's tournament has drawn attention not only for its competitive nature but also for Trump's continued involvement as a high-profile supporter of the event.
