Gears of War: E-Day, the latest installment in the Gears of War series created by The Coalition, transports players back to the beginning of the war against the Locusts. Set 14 years before the events of the original Gears of War, the game centers on Emergence Day (E-Day), the day the Locusts first emerged from underground and triggered a global conflict on the planet Sera. Players take on the roles of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as young soldiers in the Coalition Guard, experiencing the chaos and challenges of this early stage of the invasion. Developers have aimed to bring the series back to its roots with improved visuals and gameplay through the Unreal Engine 5. The game offers a more cinematic single-player experience, featuring intense combat with cover-based third-person shooting and a variety of new weapons and mechanics. While the game does not take place in a fully open world, it includes semi-open areas that encourage exploration and offer additional activities. Cooperative play is available, allowing up to four players to team up in both the campaign and online multiplayer. Players can adjust the difficulty by customizing settings such as health for characters and enemies, as well as the behavior of Locust enemies. The main campaign is expected to take around 15 hours to complete, with additional content extending the experience through online and co-op modes. While it is unclear if Gears of War: E-Day will be the final entry in the series, the developers have confirmed plans for at least five post-launch seasons of content and possible features in future games. For PC players, the game requires a minimum of an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 or RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 6600 or RX 9060 graphics card, an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or Intel Core i7-6850K processor, 12 GB of RAM, and 115 GB of SSD storage. Recommended specifications include more powerful hardware, such as an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 or RTX 3060 Ti, an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-11600K processor, 16 GB of RAM, and Windows 11 64 bits. Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled to release on October 6, 2026, and will be available on PC (Steam, Xbox PC), Xbox Series X|S, and Cloud Gaming platforms. The game has a PEGI 18 rating and will be priced between €69.99 and €99.99, depending on the edition.
