Dacia has unveiled a redesigned version of its Spring electric city car, which has sold over 210,000 units since its debut in 2021. The previous model saw declining sales after losing eligibility for an environmental bonus in late 2023, as it was produced in China. The new Spring is now manufactured in Slovenia at the Novo Mesto plant, making it eligible for European ecological incentives. This change aims to improve its competitiveness in the growing electric vehicle market.
The new Spring shares its technical foundation with the Renault Twingo E-Tech, using the "RGEV Small" platform. About 75% of the parts are common between the two models, but Dacia has made design changes to distinguish the Spring. The new model has a more rugged and imposing look, featuring a raw plastic bumper, vertical black strip, and a raised hood. The rear has also been redesigned with elevated lights and a more open rear windshield. Four color options are available: Blue Agave, Grey Schiste, Black Étoilé, and White Glacier, along with 15 or 16-inch steel wheels depending on the trim level.
Inside, the new Spring is similar to the Twingo, with a 10-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. The dashboard layout is the same, but the Spring lacks Google services and has a limited app store with Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, and Here Maps. The interior is practical but less vibrant than the Twingo, with fixed rear seats and a split 50/50 rear bench. The trunk space has been expanded to 337 liters, with an optional 18-liter front compartment. The new model is 6 cm longer than the previous version, offering more space and practicality for urban users.
The new Spring is powered by an 80 horsepower electric motor and a 27.5 kWh LFP battery, which provides 250 km of range on the WLTP cycle—slightly less than the Twingo’s 263 km. It includes standard 6.6 kW AC charging, with an optional 500 € Charge Pack adding 11 kW AC charging, 50 kW DC fast charging, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. The base model starts at 17,900 € for the Expression trim and 19,400 € for the Journey trim. Potential discounts through ecological bonuses and an additional 1,200 to 2,000 € bonus for European battery production starting in early 2027 could bring the price down further.
Dacia’s new Spring is part of its broader strategy to introduce four fully electric models by 2030. It competes with the Twingo E-Tech, starting at 19,490 €, as well as Chinese models like the Leapmotor T03 and BYD Dolphin Surf. The new Spring is positioned as a more affordable and practical option, particularly for households with modest incomes. With potential discounts, its final price could be below 10,000 €, making it an attractive entry-level electric vehicle for urban drivers.
