On Friday evening at the Espace Boisrame in Pontault-Combault, the local team and Elite Val d'Oise could not be separated during the fifth day of the Proligue league, ending regulation time in a 37-37 draw. The match was a high-scoring affair that kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout, ultimately leading to the use of a newly introduced penalty kick rule and the awarding of a bonus point. This match marked the first time the bonus point rule was applied in Proligue. According to the new regulation, if a match ends in a tie, the teams face off in a series of penalty kicks. The winner of that series earns an additional point, which is added to their overall tally for the match. In this particular game, Pontault-Combault proved to be the more skillful team, defeating Elite Val d'Oise 4 to 2 in the penalty shootout. As a result, Pontault-Combault leaves the match with two points, as if they had won outright, even though they only drew the regular time. The Seine-et-Marnais team thus walks away with this unprecedented advantage, while Elite Val d'Oise departs with the disappointment of a match that nearly slipped through their fingers, earning just one point. The implementation of this new rule has sparked interest in how it might influence the final standings at the end of the season. The bonus point system introduces a new dynamic to the competition, potentially altering the outcomes of matches that end in draws. It remains to be seen whether this rule will significantly impact the race for the top positions in the league. This match not only showcased the intensity of Proligue play but also highlighted the league’s willingness to adapt and introduce new formats to enhance competition. The use of the penalty shootout and the bonus point system could become a defining feature of the season, adding an extra layer of excitement and unpredictability to the league's matches.
