A massive staircase floats on water, six bodies dance, hold on, spin, and attempt to regain a precarious balance. At the slightest misstep, it is a fall. To support them, two musicians on a barge perform live: singing, trumpet, guitar, synthesizer, interspersed with speeches on the climate crisis. The Weight of Water carries a sensitive reflection on our interdependencies and vulnerabilities, a physical challenge as much as a poetic performance. Around the choreographer Pia Meuthen, the Dutch company PANAMA PICTURES creates performances combining dance, circus, live music, and architectural sets. For The Weight of Water, it is the floating staircase Triomf by the artist/plastician/architect Rob van Dam, whose tip reaches a height of 6 meters, that serves as a moving stage for the performers. The performance took place on 9 and 10 October 2026 at Bassin à Flot, Quai Lawton, Bordeaux, in the framework of the FAB. The FAB, or Festival d'Art Brut, is an event that showcases unconventional and experimental art forms, often involving non-traditional artists or creators. This festival provides a platform for innovative and boundary-pushing performances and installations. The choreography was by Pia Meuthen, with acrobatics and dance performed by Tarek Rammo, Petra Steindl, Francesco Barba, Fynn Neb, Toon Theunissen, Yaniv Dagan, Lucy Steinfeld, and Róisín Harten. Live music and composition were provided by Davide Bellotta and iET, with costumes by Sanne Reichert, rehearsal instructor and training by Miquel de Jong, and staircase design by Rob van Dam. Photos were taken by Nasser Hashemi.
