Sainsbury’s has launched its Christmas food-to-order service, allowing customers to pre-order festive meals and desserts for collection between 22 and 24 December. This is the first time the supermarket has offered such a service, with last orders due by 16 December. A £20 deposit is required to reserve an order, and the full amount must be paid before pickup. The menu features a wide selection of starters, mains, sides, and desserts. New starters this season include a brie en croute, a baked cheese dish wrapped in pastry (£16), a garlic and mature Cheddar Camembert wreath (£11), and a butternut squash and cranberry wreath (£7). The prawn cocktail has been upgraded to include lobster and serves four (£17), while a Scottish smoked salmon and king prawn terrine (£17) is available as a centrepiece for the table. Mains include several stuffed and glazed turkeys, such as a turkey crown with an apricot, cranberry, and candied ginger stuffing, glazed with honey and treacle (from £67.50), and a turkey breast parcel with a dark cherry and apricot stuffing, glazed with maple and chai honey (£40). Other options include a salt-aged crackling pork rib roast with basting herbs and Cornish butter (from £28.01), and a salt-dry aged Welsh hill rack of lamb with an orange and maple glaze (from £15.20). Fish dishes include a crisp Hebridean salmon Wellington with a rich brut champagne sauce (£50) and a parsley crusted halibut fillet (£42.50). A vegan no-turkey crown with a bacon lattice (£7) is also available for those seeking a meat-free alternative. Sides have been enhanced this year, with options like Welsh rarebit cauliflower cheese (£10), a Brussels sprout and cavolo nero gratin, and honey and orange carrots (£8). Desserts include a limoncello tiramisu (£12), made with a savoiardi sponge and zesty Sicilian lemon sauce, a Black Forest cheesecake with a chocolate biscuit base and sour cherry sauce (£15), and a show-stopping "driving home this Christmas" dessert—a rich chocolate mousse set on a crisp white chocolate, wafer, and biscuit base, topped with a salted caramel sauce and a brownie centre (£18).
