Gide Noël finds rhythm in Betclic ÉLITE league

Gide Noël, a forward for Élan Béarnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez, is beginning to settle into the Betclic ÉLITE league after a slow start to the season. His performance on October 25 against Limoges CSP (85-81) marked a turning point, where he contributed 11 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, and a plus-12 rating in 23 minutes.

Pau's defensive efforts highlight Noël's impact

A week earlier, Noël scored 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists in a win against Saint-Quentin (102-89). His defensive contributions helped Pau dominate for most of the game, despite Limoges making a late comeback. His three steals in the game against Limoges forced 17 turnovers, contributing to Pau's 19-point lead.

Noël acknowledges team's need for focus

Despite Pau’s strong performance, Noël noted that the team slightly faltered in the third quarter after a strong first half. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus with a large lead, especially in a demanding championship schedule, and pointed out that Limoges managed to close the gap to two points before ultimately losing.

Adapting to top division challenges

Noël joined Élan Béarnais this summer from Alliance Sport Alsace in the ELITE 2 division. His first three games yielded only 10 points, but he has since doubled his output with 20 points in the last two games. However, his shooting accuracy remains a concern, with 31% overall and 17.6% from three-point range.

Noël gains confidence and support

Noël said he is gradually finding his place with the team, noting that his performance has improved compared to the start of the season. His teammates, especially the veterans, have helped him adapt, and the club has welcomed him and his wife into the region. He emphasized the importance of continuing on this path.

Noël's approach to the game

Noël relies on simplicity and confidence in his abilities to handle the new level. He prefers to enjoy the game and play the basketball he is comfortable with, without pressure. He aims to give his all and avoid regrets at the end of each game.

Home game atmosphere boosts Pau

Noël’s first official game against Limoges in the Bearnais jersey took place in front of 7,355 spectators at the Palais des Sports in Pau. He appreciated the atmosphere and the effort from Limoges supporters, who traveled despite the current situation. The full house provided a real asset for the team.

Pau's progress continues

After three losses to start the season, Pau has bounced back with wins against Saint-Quentin and Limoges. The team now has a record of two wins and three losses, moving away from the bottom of the table. Noël, averaging 6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1 assist in 15 minutes, hopes to continue this progress in upcoming matches.

Looking ahead to next challenge

With a road game against Mans next, the Bearnais aim to extend their success beyond their home arena. Noël emphasized the importance of not resting on past wins, especially after the second-half struggles against Limoges. The team wants to make their home arena a fortress and replicate their success on the road.
