A small village in the Nièvre, a region in central France, serves as the backdrop for a new play titled Orgueilleuse, which examines the delicate and often unpredictable ways in which life's small moments can shape the future. The play is written and directed by Ève Pereur, with Catherine Baugue and Flore Lefebvre des Noëttes in leading roles. Sophie Claret works as the artistic collaborator and stage assistant, while Youness Anzane contributes as the dramaturge, helping to shape the narrative and themes. The set design is by Alice Giradet, and the musical score is composed by The Flymax Band. Lighting and costume design are handled by Élisa Millot and Angèle Gaspar, respectively. Orgueilleuse is produced by Compagnie Les Sauces, a theater company known for its innovative storytelling, and is also supported by several other cultural institutions across France, including the Théâtre National de Nice - CDN Nice Côte d'Azur, Pôle Arts de la Scène - Friche la Belle de Mai, and others. These partnerships highlight the play's significance within the French theater community and its potential to reach a wide audience. The play will be staged at several venues across France. Performances will take place at Théâtre National de Nice - CDN Nice Côte d'Azur from 25 to 28 November 2026, at Théâtre de Grasse on 1 December 2026, and at Aix, Bois de L’Aune on 3 and 4 December 2026. These dates allow for a broad regional reach, enabling audiences in different parts of the country to experience the production. The narrative of Orgueilleuse is inspired by the butterfly effect, a scientific theory introduced by meteorologist Edward Lorenz. This concept suggests that small changes in initial conditions can lead to vastly different outcomes, much like how a butterfly flapping its wings might eventually cause a storm in a distant location. The play uses this idea to explore the lives of three women from the village, focusing on the seemingly minor decisions that have had lasting impacts on their lives. Through their stories, the play reflects on the unpredictability of life and the beauty found in its randomness.
