AI-powered data entry in Google Sheets

Google has introduced new features in Google Sheets that use its Gemini artificial intelligence to help users enter and verify data more efficiently. These updates include auto-completion tools that can quickly fill in information like country populations and income levels, which previously required manual research and input.

Source verification for AI-generated data

One of the enhancements allows users to check the sources of data generated by Gemini. By hovering over a cell, users can see a web link symbol, which lets them click through to the sources used by the AI. This feature makes it easier to verify the information, though it does not ensure its accuracy.

Faster processing and larger query support

Google has also improved the speed of Gemini in Sheets, making responses up to 55 times faster than manual entry for operations involving 500 cells. Additionally, users can now process queries that include up to 3,000 cells. These updates started rolling out on October 20, 2026, and should be fully available within 15 days.

Eligibility for the new features

The new features are available to users with certain subscriptions, including Google Workspace Business or Enterprise (Standard and Plus), Google AI Pro, AI Pro for Education or Ultra, and those with the AI Expanded Access add-on in Google Workspace.
