As the follow-up to Greta Gerwig's film Barbie appeared seriously compromised this summer, discussions reportedly resumed under the impetus of new leadership at Warner Bros. The original plan for Barbie 2 had faced challenges, particularly around financial commitments and scheduling conflicts. However, with new management in place, there is renewed hope that the sequel might still come to fruition. According to Variety, Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, who are set to take on important roles within the future Skydance entity, have already begun contacting Margot Robbie and her partners at LuckyChap. The goal is to revive Barbie 2 and attempt to reunite Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling. The arrival of this new owner could therefore change many things. David Ellison, head of Skydance, has named Ynon Kreiz, former CEO of Mattel, as co-CEO of the new entity. It is difficult to find someone who knows better the commercial potential of Barbie. Hoping that this potential sequel is at the heart of his new priorities and responsibilities. This summer, the problem was mainly financial. The main talents were demanding salaries commensurate with the phenomenal success of the first film, while Warner seemed reluctant to pay the bill. Now, Skydance appears more willing to open its wallet. A source cited by Variety is even categorical: "There is no reason why Barbie 2 should not be made." However, nothing has yet been signed and everyone is very busy. Greta Gerwig is working on Narnia, Ryan Gosling is set to play Ghost Rider for Marvel, and Margot Robbie is committed to the next Ocean's. Very busy schedules, which will be difficult to coordinate. However, as the deadline approaches for the Barbie rights (which will return to Mattel at the end of the year), the file is hot again. Even though Barbie still does not have an officially announced second film, it finally has a real chance to return!
