Snap is expanding its augmented reality (AR) glasses into the enterprise market by forming partnerships with tech giants like Nvidia, Salesforce, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The company is positioning its Specs AR glasses not just as a camera accessory but as a full computing platform designed to assist workers in various industries. These glasses, priced at $2,195, are intended to help field technicians by displaying digital instructions during equipment inspections or repairs, making tasks more efficient and reducing the need for manual reference materials.
The Specs glasses also allow employees to interact with colleagues and access real-time information while performing workplace tasks. This hands-free approach aims to streamline workflows in sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics. Snap’s CEO, Evan Spiegel, pointed out that earlier attempts at consumer-focused AR and VR devices, like Microsoft’s HoloLens and Meta’s Quest, struggled with widespread adoption. He argues that the bulkier design of those devices made them less practical for everyday use, and that Specs is better suited for professional environments where functionality and comfort are key.
To support enterprise use, Snap is working with Nvidia to leverage its open-source extended reality AI platform, which helps businesses create applications for immersive devices. Salesforce is also involved, aiming to integrate its customer relationship management (CRM) tools with the Specs glasses, while AWS provides cloud infrastructure to support the technology. Spiegel emphasized that these partnerships are designed to make it easier for businesses to adopt and use the Specs glasses alongside existing software and AI services.
Snap is also developing a new AI service called Specs Intelligence, which will work across its AR glasses, iPhones, and Mac computers. The company has not yet announced pricing for the service, but it plans to offer both free access and usage-based options. The system aims to allow users to complete tasks through an AI assistant while seamlessly switching between devices, enhancing productivity and connectivity in both professional and personal settings.
