An administrative investigation has been launched after reports of hazing involving young basketball players at the Pôle France, a high-level training center affiliated with the Insep (National Institute of Sport, Expertise and Performance). The incidents reportedly occurred during the night of Sunday to Monday at the dormitory of the Pôle France, which is located in the Bois de Vincennes, an area in the eastern part of Paris. According to the Insep, some younger athletes were struck by older players during this time. One of the affected individuals reportedly complained of abdominal pain and received medical checks that were ultimately deemed reassuring. Following the incident, the Insep stated that it had informed the families of the players involved and initiated an administrative investigation into the matter. Additionally, the institution implemented "access restriction measures" to the facility as a precautionary step. Ten athletes are reportedly involved in the incident. Fabien Canu, the general director of the Insep, emphasized that the organization would conduct a thorough investigation to determine individual responsibilities and ensure the safety and well-being of its athletes. "We will never compromise on the safety and physical and moral integrity of our athletes," he stated. The Insep reiterated that any form of violence, humiliation, intimidation, or practices similar to hazing are incompatible with its values. The French Basketball Federation, which is working closely with the institution, is also expected to provide a statement on the issue. The organization has confirmed that a disciplinary council will be held after the investigation to decide on the appropriate measures and sanctions for those involved. This incident has raised concerns about the treatment of young athletes in elite sports training environments. The Insep has committed to transparency and accountability, aiming to address the issue thoroughly and prevent future occurrences. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and dignity of all athletes under its care.
