Martha Stewart apologizes for Halloween costume

Martha Stewart, an American lifestyle expert, apologized on Sunday, November 1st, for a Halloween costume she described as "insensitive and not funny," after appearing dressed as a homeless person.

Costume drew criticism online

The 85-year-old billionaire posted on Instagram, stating, "It is difficult to admit when one has really made a big mistake," after deleting a photo showing her wearing torn jeans, a tattered vest, and with a dirty face. In the image, she also held a sign that read "I'm hungry, please help me!!"

Public reaction was harsh

Her post had received significant criticism, with many internet users accusing her of being disconnected from reality. Stewart acknowledged that many people suffer from economic difficulties and stated, "Wearing a costume like the one I had is insensitive and has nothing funny about it. I am truly sorry."

She revised her initial explanation

She also noted that an earlier explanation to American media, in which she claimed to have wanted to raise public awareness about homelessness through the costume, "did not go far enough."

Martha Stewart's influence

Stewart is the most well-known figure in the United States in the "lifestyle" universe, encompassing cooking, decoration, home, gardening, entertaining, DIY, and other related areas. She has transformed her image of the perfect housewife into a media and commercial empire.

Past legal issues did not hinder her career

In 2004, she was sentenced to five months in prison in a securities fraud case, although this did not significantly affect her career.
