On the stage of the Espace Diamant, a group of young dancers from Ajaccio presented a 25-minute performance created under the guidance of their teacher, Pierre-Antoine d'Orazio. The dancers, who were selected through auditions to join the ballet, used their choreography to explore themes such as climate change, artificial intelligence, the impact of technology, and the treatment of animals in circuses. The opening evening of the cultural season attracted nearly 200 attendees, marking the beginning of a series of events planned for the coming months.
The cultural season will run until the end of May, with events taking place at the Theatre Empire, the Espace Diamant, and occasionally at other venues. The program offers a wide range of activities, including theatre, dance, music, comedy, conferences, and exhibitions. A total of 33 shows will be presented in over 80 performances. The high number of sessions is partly due to the inclusion of performances aimed at children, which are repeated to give more students the opportunity to attend.
Eight exhibitions are also planned, along with five creation residencies and a focus on emerging artists from the island of Corsica. Laurianne Giacobbi, director of culture for the City of Ajaccio, emphasized that this season continues the work of the programming teams, focusing on three key elements: "Eclecticism, rigor, and creation." Corsican artists make up about a third of the programming. The city supports these artists from the early stages of their projects, often through creation residencies. "They are fundamental in our work, they are the first to be heard, listened to, and supported," Giacobbi explained.
Among the planned performances are meetings with well-known figures such as Fabrice Luchini and Fauve Hautot, as well as lesser-known productions. The season will also feature performances from Molière's plays and several comedic shows. Insular creation—art from Corsica—remains a central focus for the culture department.
In her speech, Marie-France Colonna d'Istria, the deputy for culture, summarized the city's goal: "A cultural season is not a catalog. It is a meeting, an emotion, a discovery, sometimes even a surprise." Following the opening evening, the first performances of the season are set to begin.
