French comedy adapts Spanish film

Scheduled for release in French cinemas on November 4, 2026, Un bon patron features Didier Bourdon in the role of a business executive facing a series of problems. The comedy, directed by Philippe de Chauveron, is an adaptation of a Spanish film that has been awarded multiple times.

Spanish original won awards

Directed by Philippe de Chauveron, known for Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu ?, Un bon patron is the remake of El buen patrón, a Spanish film released in 2021. Written and directed by Fernando León de Aranoa, the original film starred Javier Bardem as Julio Blanco, a business executive willing to do anything to preserve the image of his company.

French version has new plot details

For this French adaptation, Didier Bourdon plays Antoine Blanchet, the heir to a family business specializing in the manufacture of scales. As he is about to receive an excellence award for his factory, several problems disrupt his daily life: a former employee who was fired protests in front of the premises, a foreman goes through a marital crisis that disrupts production, and a young intern draws attention.

Cast and creative team

To adapt this story for the French audience, Philippe de Chauveron has worked with Guy Laurent, with whom he co-wrote the screenplay and dialogues. The director thus returns to his favorite territory: popular comedy, with colorful characters and situations that gradually escalate. Didier Bourdon will notably share the screen with Catherine Frot, who plays Sophie Blanchet. The two actors reunite nearly 25 years after 7 ans de mariage. Jean-François Cayrey, François Levantal, and Ludmilla Von Claer also complete the cast. It remains to be seen if this French version will be able to recapture the balance between biting humor and critique of the working world that made the original film a success. The answer will be on November 4, 2026 in cinemas.
