Robin Raikkonen, the 11-year-old son of former Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, has signed with Red Bull's Junior Team. He is set to join the team's development program starting in 2027. Robin has already shown promise in karting, a form of motorsport where drivers compete in small, open-wheel cars, often as a stepping stone to higher levels of racing. He has competed in national and international Rotax and WSK championships, which are well-regarded series for young drivers. Kimi Raikkonen, who won the 2007 Formula 1 world title and achieved 21 Grand Prix victories and 103 podium finishes over 19 seasons in F1 from 2001 to 2021, expressed his excitement about Robin's new role. Kimi noted that Red Bull's program offers a comprehensive development plan designed to nurture Robin's talent, which has already been evident through his achievements in karting. Laurent Mekies, Red Bull's team principal, praised Robin's exceptional abilities in karting, highlighting his speed, racecraft, natural talent, maturity, calm approach, and focus on driving. Mekies emphasized that the team aims to develop Robin step by step, without placing unnecessary pressure on him. The plan includes providing the time, support, and resources needed to help Robin reach his full potential. Red Bull's Junior Team has a strong track record of developing future Formula 1 stars. Alumni of the program include Sebastian Vettel, who won four F1 world titles, and Max Verstappen, the current Formula 1 world champion. Robin's inclusion in the team signals high expectations for his future in motorsport.
