Morrisons, one of the UK's major supermarket chains, has reported its highest sales growth in over a year. For the 13 weeks ending July 26, like-for-like sales—meaning sales compared to the same period the previous year—rose by 3.2%. This brought total sales for the quarter to £4.1 billion. The company credited the increase to several factors, including the warm weather, the excitement around the World Cup, and its ongoing efforts to improve its pricing strategy. Morrisons’ Chief Executive, Rami Baitieh, described the company’s performance as "robust," noting that it outperformed the broader UK grocery market. He emphasized that the positive sales momentum was seen across all areas of the business, including its supermarkets, online services, convenience stores, pharmacies, and its manufacturing arm, Myton. The CEO expressed satisfaction with the third-quarter results, pointing to higher like-for-like sales, reduced prices, increased sales volume, and a stronger market position as signs that the company’s strategy is working. These factors indicate that Morrisons is making progress toward its long-term goals and maintaining a competitive edge in the retail sector. Baitieh’s comments reflect confidence in the company's direction, with the improved performance suggesting that Morrisons is regaining ground in a challenging market. The results also highlight the effectiveness of its strategy to enhance value for customers and strengthen its position across multiple retail channels.
