The Poco X8 has been available in France since Wednesday, September 30, through Xiaomi’s online store, alongside the Poco F9 Pro and Poco F9 Ultra. This new model boasts a significantly larger battery capacity of 8,340 mAh, which is 63 percent greater than the 5,110 mAh battery of the Poco X7 released in January 2025. The price has increased compared to the Poco X7, which started at 323 euros for the 8 GB + 256 GB configuration. The Poco X8 is listed at 403 euros for the same setup. A special launch offer available until October 7th reduces the price: 319 euros for the 8 GB + 256 GB configuration and 369 euros for the 12 GB + 256 GB configuration (instead of 453 euros). The phone is available in white, black, and orange.
The battery uses silicon-carbon technology, with an anode containing 13 percent silicon, a material that stores more energy than conventional graphite in the same volume. Poco claims that the battery can last more than two days and retain 80 percent of its capacity after 1,600 charge cycles, which is approximately six years according to its calculations. The charging speed is up to 67 watts, and the phone can also charge another device via cable at 22.5 watts.
The Poco X8 features a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen with a 1.5K resolution, announced to reach 3,500 nits in peak brightness on a quarter of the panel, and a 50-megapixel stabilized main camera sensor. On the chip side, it uses a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor etched in 4 nm, a mid-range entry-level system-on-chip. The chassis includes IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications, which means it resists immersion at 2 meters for 72 hours and high-pressure water jets at 80 °C.
A cheaper sibling of the Redmi Note 17 Pro, the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, which arrived in France in September, has the same chip, the same 8,340 mAh battery, and the same 67-watt charging. However, it starts at 449 euros with only 6 GB of RAM. The Poco X8 costs 46 euros less, with 2 GB more RAM and the IP69 and IP69K certifications, while the Redmi stops at IP68. The only advantage of the Redmi is that it is equipped with an ultra-wide-angle lens.
A large battery does not necessarily guarantee record autonomy. However, this is not the case with the new Poco or the Redmi. The latter displays more than 18 hours and 30 minutes with adaptive refresh rate and 24 hours at 60 Hz. It should be the same for the Poco X8. However, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 is power-hungry when it is heavily used. In gaming, battery life drops much faster. The gap widens compared to Samsung. Samsung sells the Galaxy A37 for 469 euros in 6 GB + 128 GB and 589 euros in 8 GB + 256 GB. It therefore costs 186 euros more than the Poco X8 in the same configuration, for a 5,000 mAh battery that charges at 45 watts. Samsung also commits to a minimum of 1,200 charge cycles, compared to 1,600 announced by Poco.
At 319 euros, the Poco X8 is therefore a good deal to last two days without a charger with a phone that supports water and drops. However, it will not make a miracle in gaming, and the Poco F9 models are much better equipped for that. The launch offer ends on October 7th, then the 8 GB + 256 GB version will go back to 403 euros, a price that remains lower than that of the Redmi Note 17 Pro.
