A British hiker named Alexander Harris has died after falling into a ravine in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Harris, 30, went missing on Saturday while hiking on Musa Ka Musalla, a mountain that rises to 4,000 meters (about 13,000 feet). Local officials believe he strayed from the designated trail due to poor weather conditions and limited visibility, which likely caused him to slip and fall to his death. According to Khalid Iqbal, the area's deputy commissioner, Harris became separated from his hiking companion around 5:40 a.m. local time. Iqbal explained that Harris was moving faster and had gotten about 1-2 kilometers ahead before it began to rain. This change in weather likely contributed to the poor visibility that led to the incident. A large search party, including over 250 volunteers and police, used both ground teams and drones to locate Harris's body, which was found on a forest path. Iqbal noted that the hotel Harris was staying at provided guides and security, but Harris had previously stated he was familiar with the area and did not need assistance. The UK's Foreign Office confirmed it was supporting Harris's family and in contact with local authorities. Harris's running group, Margalla Trail Runners, based in Islamabad, shared the news of his death on social media. They stated that Harris had apparently taken an incorrect trail due to adverse weather and reduced visibility, leading to his fall into a ravine approximately 200 feet deep. Originally from Birmingham, Harris was also an Irish citizen and had been living in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, where he worked for the global company Adam Smith International. The running group highlighted that Harris had a deep love for Pakistan, especially its mountains, and was learning Urdu while being fascinated by the country's culture and people. They expressed their condolences to his family, friends, and fellow runners, noting that his loss would be deeply felt by the trail-running community and all who shared his passion for the mountains of Pakistan. Adam Smith International also released a statement expressing their thoughts and gratitude to those who participated in the search efforts.
