Audio-Technica has unveiled its new ATH-AL5NC Open-Back Wireless Headphones, priced at $279. This product marks the company’s latest addition to its open-back headphone series, which previously included only wired models. The ATH-AL5NC aims to blend the acoustic benefits of open-back designs with modern wireless features, though it does not provide full noise cancellation due to the open-back structure. The headphones feature 53mm drivers, which are responsible for producing sound, and support high-resolution audio transmission via the LDAC codec, along with AAC and SBC. These codecs ensure better sound quality over Bluetooth connections. Additionally, the ATH-AL5NC offers Multipoint Bluetooth pairing, which lets users connect to two devices at once, such as a smartphone and a laptop. Audio-Technica claims the headphones can deliver up to 75 hours of continuous playback, with an extra eight hours of listening from just 15 minutes of charging. A companion app called CONNECT allows users to customize their listening experience by adjusting equalizer settings, switching between different modes, and selecting preferred audio codecs. These modes include low-latency gaming, noise reduction, and sound leakage reduction. The open-back design of the headphones allows air to flow through the ear cups, which helps reduce heat buildup and provides a more natural, spacious sound compared to closed-back models. The company also mentions that the headphones apply "minimal clamping pressure," making them more comfortable for extended use. However, the open-back design also means that more sound can be heard by others nearby, and the headphones cannot completely block out ambient noise. To address these issues, Audio-Technica has included several software-based features. The ATH-AL5NC is now available for purchase, and it comes with a 1.2-meter cable and a carrying pouch for convenience.
