Theatrical production announced for 2026

A new theatrical production titled Les artistes qu’on mérite is set to run from December 5 to December 12, 2026, at T2G, Théâtre de Gennevilliers. This marks the venue’s upcoming contribution to the French theatrical calendar with a unique and ambitious project.

Concept and inspiration

The production, conceived by Daphné Biiga Nwanak and Baudouin Woehl, explores the role of art in the face of contemporary transformations. It draws inspiration from Vies des artistes by Giorgio Vasari, the first book of Art History written in 1550, and presents a narrative where artists from different eras must coexist in a purgatory-like setting.

Characters and narrative

The plot involves a drawing professor, a sculptor from the Renaissance, a promise of literature cut short by AIDS, an unknown 19th-century musician, and a somewhat ironic young visual artist. These characters represent a diverse range of artistic backgrounds and historical contexts, creating a dialogue across time and medium.

Creative team and collaborators

The production includes contributions from various artists and technicians, including scenography and costumes by Clédat & Petitpierre, sound creation by Foucault de Malet Régie, and lighting by César Godefroy. These collaborations aim to enhance the immersive and thematic elements of the play.

Support and funding

The production is supported by multiple organizations, including T2G – CDN de Gennevilliers, La Comédie – CDN de Reims, and others. This backing underscores the significance of the project within the broader landscape of contemporary French theatre.
